The Meanest Mother in the World by Bobbie Pingaro

Happy Mother's day to all of you mom's and mom's to be! May your day be filled with blessings. Today, I am sharing one of my all time favorite poems and I hope you enjoy it!

"The Meanest Mother"

I had the meanest mother in the whole world. While other kids ate
candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal, eggs or toast. When others
had cokes and candy for lunch, I had to eat a sandwich. As you can
guess, my supper was different than the other kids' also.
But at least, I wasn't alone in my sufferings. My sister and two
brothers had the same mean mother as I did.
My mother insisted upon knowing where we were at all times. You'd
think we were on a chain gang. She had to know who our friends were and
where we were going. She insisted if we said we'd be gone an hour, that
we be gone one hour or less--not one hour and one minute. I am nearly
ashamed to admit it, but she actually struck us. Not once, but each
time we had a mind of our own and did as we pleased. That poor belt was
used more on our seats than it was to hold up Daddy's pants. Can you
imagine someone actualy hitting a child just because he disobeyed? Now
you can begin to see how mean she really was.
We had to wear clean clothes and take a bath. The other kids always
wore their clothes for days. We reached the height of insults because
she made our clothes herself, just to save money. Why, oh why, did we
have to have a mother who made us feel different from our friends?
The worst is yet to come. We had to be in bed by nine each night
and up at eight the next morning. We couldn't sleep till noon like our
friends. So while they slept-my mother actually had the nerve to break
the child-labor law. She made us work. We had to wash dishes, make
beds, learn to cook and all sorts of cruel things. I believe she laid
awake at night thinking up mean things to do to us.
She always insisted upon us telling the truth, the whole truth and
nothing but the truth, even if it killed us- and it nearly did.
By the time we were teen-agers, she was much wiser, and our life
became even more unbearable. None of this tooting the horn of a car for
us to come running. She embarrassed us to no end by making our dates
and friends come to the door to get us. If I spent the night with a
girlfriend, can you imagine she checked on me to see if I were really
there. I never had the chance to elope to Mexico. That is if I'd had a
boyfriend to elope with. I forgot to mention, while my friends were
dating at the mature age of 12 and 13, my old fashioned mother refused
to let me date until the age of 15 and 16. Fifteen, that is, if you
dated only to go to a school function. And that was maybe twice a year.

Through the years, things didn't improve a bit. We could not lie
in bed, "sick" like our friends did, and miss school. If our friends
had a toe ache, a hang nail or serious ailment, they could stay home
from school. Our marks in school had to be up to par. Our friends'
report cards had beautiful colors on them, black for passing, red for
failing. My mother being as different as she was, would settle for
nothing less than ugly black marks.
As the years rolled by, first one and then the other of us was put
to shame. We were graduated from high school. With our mother behind
us, talking, hitting and demanding respect, none of us was allowed the
pleasure of being a drop-out.
My mother was a complete failure as a mother. Out of four
children, a couple of us attained some higher education. None of us
have ever been arrested, divorced or beaten his mate. Each of my
brothers served his time in the service of this country. And whom do we
have to blame for the terrible way we turned out? You're right, our
mean mother. Look at the things we missed. We never got to march in a
protest parade, nor to take part in a riot, burn draft cards, and a
million and one other things that our friends did.
She forced us to grow up into God-fearing, educated, honest adults.
Using this as a background, I am trying to raise my three
children. I stand a little taller and I am filled with pride when my
children call me mean.
Because, you see, I thank God, He gave me the meanest mother in
the whole world.

So, To really understand me... You have to understand the hubs. He is a wonderful man with one flaw. He likes to pick at me until I explode. In college, he was telling his professor that he loves to pick at me.... and I have Ring of Fire Ad/hd. Her reply, "You shouldn't do that! You really Shouldn't do that!!!!"

Well, Monday night he wsa picking at me badly ( still about the computer). Instead of losing my temper I said, "If you don't stop I am gonna rub my gum in what little hair you have."
"Go ahead! It won't stick!"
"You are stupid if you think that the gum will just pull out."
"Go Ahead and do it. I'm right."
"You're what? You are always wrong! I don't even understand how you lived this long without me. You have no common sense. I am NOT rubbing this gum in your hair. It will get stuck and you will get mad at me."
"No I won't! It won't stick... do it Weenie!"

At this point it was ON like Donkey Kong!

I took the 5 gum (sour bubblegum flavor) from my mouth, and gave it a nice smear on the back of his head. He smiled, reached back, and pulled a tiny piece of the VERY STUCK gum from his hair! Victory!

"Ha HA! Told YA so!" He didn't think that was funny.
"Don't talk to me. I have to get this out!"
"I thought it wouldn't stick?"
"Shut Up Jennie."

At this point, he got really quiet.

"Are you mad at me?"
"You put gum in my hair! Yes, I am mad!"
"YOU TOLD ME TO! YOU DON'T GET TO BE MAD WHEN YOU GOAD ME INTO DOING SOMETHING. It's not my fault you are always wrong."
"Are you still mad?
"Yes."
"That isn't fair... This is just like the laptop thing yesterday."
"Don't stick gum in people's hair"
"Don't be a Moron!"

Isn't there a point where guys come to erms with the fact that they are wrong and just go with it?

A Bookish Husband and Wife Conversation....

I am about to start a new business venture. I am really excited about it, so I talked to my hubby about getting a laptop. I will need something portable, and even though I love it so much.... My desktop isnt easy to tote.

The hubs and I discussed it in length, and he agreed that i will need one. He said I could have one! YEAH!

So, 2 days later I get onto dell.com and customize, personalize, and jennieize my order. I pimp this sucker out. With everything I will need..and maybe a few things we don't .

Sunday, after church, we decided to go to Outback Steakhouse for lunch! YUMMY! On the way he asked me what I wanted for mother's day.... Now, I confess, I though he was just awesome! A new laptop (wireless all in 1 printer, 2 mp3 players, a scarlet red cordless mouse), and a mother's day gift.. He is gaining brownie points left and right!!! Being Modest and trying to look flattered I say.., "Honey, that Laptop is gift enough."

He stops and stares at me... for a long time.... in the middle of the road.... I smile lovingly.

"What laptop?", he replies.
"You said I could get a laptop."
"Yes, I did, but I didn't mean right now."
"Oh, well, I might have ordered it 2 days ago."

This is where it gets interesting...

He says, " How Much was it?"
"I put it on a Dell Card." (I have a dell card from last year when we got m desk top).
"How Much was it?"
So looking on the brighter side I say " It might have been 5000 dollars."
He swallows hard.... "Just kidding!!!! See now it wont seem so bad" lol! He didn't think that was funny!
"Jennie, How much was it. You card only have a $2000 limit. How much is left on the Card."
"Well, I built it the way I wanted it... and we might have about $50 left on (your new dell card).
"WHAT!!!"
"Well, My limit wasn't big enough... and you have good credit so your limit was better than mine... Congrats on your new Dell card! You were approved No interest for 9 months."
"Can you have it payed of in 9 months?"
"Honey, you know I can.. I am a bill paying whiz!"
"For Future Reference If I tell you that you can have something.... Talk to me before you order it..."
"I did! You said I could have it!"
"I didn't mean NOW! I meant in a month or so..."
"You didn't specify... You have to be specific. If you don't want me to got something... Don't tell me I can have it yet.."
Okay, Let's chalk that up to miscommunication! How Much was it?O"
"Are we going to the Outback Steakhouse? There it is."
"Don't change the Subject...."
"I have to Pee.... really bad. BTW I got you a surprise."
"What the bill!
"No Silly! You'll See when it gets here".

He said he wanted a MP3 Player.. So I got him one...
Thank Goodness that last topic change worked. So this is what it looks like!
Yes, I realize that I am blessed and spoiled beyond belief. I definitely do not deserve him!
