In over my head....
My husband and I have been taking a few of the girls that my 13 year old goes to school with to Kajukembo with us. Some are from broken homes and some are "trouble makers at school that start drama. We are trying to reach these kids, give them attainable expectations, and be a positive influence on their lives. It is going well.
On the way home Monday night, the girls were talking about so an so moving back and how she had left badly. Girl #1 was saying how she was going to provoke so and so to hit her so she could beat her rear into the ground. I asked girl #1 what her middle name was. She told me and I proceeded to call her by her full name, and tell her lovingly that self defense was fine and good. What she was wanting was not self defense , and it was wrong. I told her it was better to forgive so and so and move on. I told her that I would be very disappointed in her if she fought anyone because she is better than that! I told her I love her and expect more from her. Then I made her promise she wouldn't fight anyone.
I want you to know that 4 days later and still no fight.. YAy! small victory!
Well, My daughter and I were talking this morning.... All of the kids LOVE Kajukembo and they had a blast! My daughter told me...lot's more kids are wanting to go.... GULP! I only have a mini van and 5 kids of my own to take. My hubs abd I have been taking seperate vehicles to get everyone there on time! LOL! I take the teens and he takes our kids. I can fit 1 or 2 more kids and that is it. Plus some of these kids families cant afford to pay the $40 /mo. tuition.
Please pary that God will provide the tuition money and a voulnteer or 2 to haul these kids to Kajukembo class every monday and thursday.

A Bookish Mom is sliming down... slowly but surely

I guess I get so busy here with the kids, and A Bookish Mom... I forget to post.
In March, I started a "diet plan". I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks and was amazed. Then for some reason I stopped and started the fast food again. Gained it all back... Well, I finally had some sense knocked into me. Now, I also have a great support system to help keep me on track.
In the past 2 weeks I have lost 18 lbs. I feel good. I am excited, and ready to lose more.
I have been doing Herbalife. It is a meal replacement program similar to slimfast, but in my opinion, so much better. First off, Herbalife shakes are so YUMMY... They are like going to Soinc or Dairy Queen and gettin a blast or blizzard twice a day!!!!! There are so many different kinds you can make from Captain Crunch to German Choc. Cake..... There are 7 different shake bases that really let your creative skills run free. They are simple to make and the plan is easy to follow.
Today, I decided to do the Herbalife Labamba Diet, which is a 3 day "jumpstart" diet. It is NOT for those with Kidney problems. You are supposed to lose between 5 to 7 lbs in 3 days. It is not a starvation diet. It is based on science and nutrition. To lose fat and not merely water weight, our bodies must burn fat. Glucagon is the hormone that increases the fat-burning capacity of our bodies. Insulin is the hormone that encourages the body to store fat.
To learn more just click the link. It is a great way to Jumpstart your diet or break plateaus.
So... I started the Labamba today.
This morning I weighed 284.6. Right now I weigh 281.8.. I will post tomorrow on how day 2 goes. On day 3 you begin the normal Herbalife Plan again.
If you are interested in doing this... Dont do if unless you are home all day.. You will have to pee every 15 to 30 minutes lol!
I am really enjoying this diet and it is working for me....It is healthy... and I feel Great.
I dont know if you will love it as much as I do, but if you want to Find out More info I get my product from Cold Ambition in New Boston, Tx. Feel free to Drop Valarie a line on face book, visit or call to get more info on Herbalife and see if it is right for you.

Debt is a vicious and Neverending Cycle, Part 1

DEBT...
Did I just hear a few groans or an Amen or two? Well, I am right there with you. Debt is a horrible, ugly and vicious cycle. Did you know that according to CNN in 2004 the average household debt looked like this:
- About 43% of American families spend more than they earn each year.
- Average households carry some $8,000 in credit card debt.
- Personal bankruptcies have doubled in the past decade.
Consumers owe nearly $2 trillion. American consumers owed a grand total of $1.9773 trillion in October 2003, according to the latest statistics on consumer credit from the Federal Reserve. That's about $18,654 per household, a figure that doesn't include mortgage debt. The number is up more than 41% from the $1.3999 trillion consumers owed in 1998.
Isn't that sickening! And that was 6 years ago!
Let's say that when you were Fresh out of High School you got a credit card to "build credit". Yeah... I've used that excuse too, but really, I just thought they were cool and had to have one. My parents never taught me, as a child about, about proper money responsibility. As a Matter of fact, one of the memories most ingrained in my mind is when we were losing everything.
My stepfather was very young and working at Whirlpool, and my mom had just put herself through college for paralegal. She offered to work for an attorney... for FREE!!!??! What for FREE! Yes, that is what I said. It isn't a typo. It was difficult to get a job and she needed the experience to get her foot in the door.
She worked for at least 6 months for Free. That is a loss of one income. We had a brand new Toyota Celica (back when they were awesome), and were living in a nice, new trailer. The bills kept piling up, and it was getting more difficult to handle.
Things got horrible tight. Before to long we didn't have the money for food. My mom received a job offer with the federal government, all of the experience she had built up paid off! We, however, were still broke. One night, we had come home and someone had set bags and bags of groceries on our door step. I will never forget it for as long as I live.
Fast forward 15 years. I am a secondly and newly married mom of 3 girls. I had made so very poor monetary choices. I had to take out a small student loan when I was single to put myself through Nursing School. At that time, a Pell grant didn't pay for the required summer classes. I had that Credit card that I got as a teen. It have been turned over for collection. I had a few other debts with collectors for medical, My wedding rings from my Ex husband (you know he didn't pay it!), a sprint bill in collection, and a car payment that I kept (for the most part current). Then something magical happened! I met my 2Nd Husband. He is amazing.
What I didn't know to ask was if he had any debt. Ladies, If you are getting married.. please... ask how much debt he has. Do not go into it blindly! If you live in a state like the great state of Texas, when you marry, His debt becomes your debt and vice versa.
Well, We had a lot of it! Not to mention, that between us both, we have 5 children, and 2 exs that never paid child support. I was a stay at home mom, quite frankly, because daycare for all would have been right at $1000 a month. I couldn't even make that working a low wage job. I didn't know what we would do. Things were very grim. We only had one car, and couldn't even go to church without the fear of a huge ticket. Things had gotten to the point that I was asking my mom to transfer 10 dollars in my account so I could buy hot dogs to last a week... They were cheap. Things kept getting worse and worse. We now lived in Texas and had to rent a very small home. I never had to rent before. Chris and I owned both of our own houses. That was another huge bill.
At this point, I had no idea what we would do. My husband had just moved us to Texas after getting a great federal government job, but we were drowning in debt and could not stay above the tide. We were being pulled under....and quickly!
Chris had the opportunity to go work out of town for a month. He was about 5 hours away at Killeen, Tx. We had only been in our new home for a few months, about 3 or 4 I think. We did not live in the best neighborhood and the children and I were all alone with no friends or family closer than 4+ hours. It was frightening and nerve wracking.
TO BE CONTINUED......

You would not believe what I did...
For Years we have enjoyed programming with Dish Network. 250+ channels and never anything on so we mindlessly flip through. Well that 250+ channels cost at least $100 a month. Not a bad price if you want to pay it, but I am cheap and I don't.
So, I called and had the TV shut off. We never use it. We have Karate twice a week, church 3+ times a week, and the rest of the time we are cleaning, doing homework, or playing outside. It was the biggest waste of money.
Now of course I do miss my VH1, Law and Order, and Psych.... but I can watch those online...not that I ever do.
Truth be told... I don't really miss it. I am way to busy to watch tv. and the kids don't miss it either... we have TONS of DVD's! So we just watch those when we can! So yeah, I did it... I shut the TV off.....
